Final Thoughts
Nintendo loves to add new attractive women in Link's already long line of potential lovers don't they? The series first began as strictly Link and Zelda, there was no one else. Now we have Malon, Midna, Ilia, Hena, Ruto, and others... I'm sure at a later date there will be more new girls to capture the hearts of fans and even more shippers wars will rage, but there is
no canon relationship between Link and anyone. Although some pairings cut it close... Link/Zelda in the
Adventure of Link, Link/Marin in
Link's Awakening, and finally Link/Ilia and Link/Midna in
Twilight Princess. ...But nothing set in stone.
All that aside, I have an inner fangirl with her own opinions. I support Link/Ilia and it's become a favorite pairing of mine; I also think it's the best pairing in the game. Even Midna seemed to acknowledged their bond, "Aw, what an emotional reunion. Yes, a girl and
her wolf!" There are definately Link/Ilia undertones throughout the course of
Twilight Princess, followed by a very memorable cut scene they share once Ilia's memory is restored. I'm not saddened by the fact that it never actually happened; in truth, it would have been strange for Link to simply return to his old life at the end like his experiences hadn't changed him whatsoever. ...I'm quite pleased with how the story was left open ended. We are left with the hope that a relationship between them could still develope at a later point in time.
